Protea 'Queen' is a striking evergreen shrub admired for its exceptionally large flower heads and elegant colouring. Known for producing some of the largest blooms among proteas, it adds a bold architectural presence to gardens and floral displays.
Key characteristics:
- Size: Typically grows 2–3 m tall and 2–3 m wide, forming a well-branched, upright shrub.
- Flowers: Produces very large, cup-shaped blooms with soft pink to rosy-red bracts surrounding a prominent silvery-white center. Flowers are long-lasting and highly sought after for cut-flower arrangements.
- Foliage: Features broad, leathery blue-green to grey-green leaves that provide year-round interest and complement the colourful blooms.
- Growing conditions: Prefers full sun and excellent drainage. It performs best in low-phosphorus soils and is drought tolerant once established. Suitable for coastal and Mediterranean-style gardens.
